The thesis is entitled Pain in hand osteoarthritis in a biopsychosocial framework.
Mulrooney's research provides insight into how biological, psychological and social factors influence the pain experience in people with hand osteoarthritis.
She has investigated the connection between pain and factors such as anxiety, depression and coping skills and has identified different subgroups of patients with hand osteoarthritis based on, among other things, these factors.
The research can be of great importance for future adaptation of pain treatment, where individual adaptation is the focus.
The doctorate is based on findings from the Nor-Hand study, an observational cohort study that has collected extensive data on pain, psychological factors and additional diseases since 2016.
