EULAR 2026 and Green Congress
EULAR is Europe's largest rheumatology congress and currently brings together researchers, clinicians, other healthcare professionals and patient representatives from all over the world. You can get the international highlights from the congress by registering for the Green Congress.
This year, EULAR will be held in London, from 3 to 6 June. The congress is about new knowledge about rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases - from basic research and new treatment options to rehabilitation, digital follow-up, patient communication and how research can be used in clinical practice. The committee expects to gather as many people as last year, when the congress had 13,542 registrations from 127 countries.
Even if you are not present, you will be able to get acquainted with important research from the congress, completely free of charge, if you register for the Green Congress digitally. The event will be held in Norwegian. It is suitable for anyone with a special interest in rheumatology and musculoskeletal diseases.
This year's EULAR program features a number of Norwegian contributions.
In this article, you will find a selection of program items that show the breadth of Norwegian rheumatological research and professional development – from systemic sclerosis, hand osteoarthritis and pediatric rheumatology to digital health, patient communication, training and follow-up of patients with rheumatic disease.
Rheumatologist Jens Vikse has highlighted a selection, which is built on here. Below the description of the selection, you will find an overview of the Norwegian contributions, around 40 of which come from the REMEDY community.
Don't forget to register for Grønn kongress to get the digital link to the streaming of the event!
Wednesday
- Home-Based Monitoring of Cardiopulmonary Complications in Systemic Sclerosis
Hilde Jenssen Bjørkekjær, PhD student in the Nor-FIORD group at OUS, presents a pilot study on home-based monitoring of cardiopulmonary manifestations in systemic sclerosis. She has worked in particular with pulmonary arterial hypertension. - Self-managing hand osteoarthritis is in the palm of your hand: the Happy Hands app
Anne Therese Tveter presents the Happy Hands project together with Ingvild Kjeken. The project has developed an app with quality-assured advice and exercises for people with hand osteoarthritis. What are the experiences? - Health literacy needs of patients with migrant backgrounds and inflammatory rheumatic diseases
Laura Treacy presents a study on the health literacy needs of patients with migrant backgrounds. How can language, culture and access to information affect patients' ability to understand the disease, use health services and actively participate in their own treatment? - Foundations of successful communication in clinic
Anna Fryxelius gives an invited talk about the importance of communication between therapist and patient. With experience as a patient, patient representative and specialist manager in the Norwegian Rheumatology Association, she shows how communication in the clinic can influence treatment, collaboration and compliance.
Thursday
- Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
- PhD students Imane Barden and Alexander Nima Sharami present long-term outcomes in juvenile idiopathic arthritis and remission data from minJIA, respectively.
- The RheumaVision research knowledge transfer contest
Vilde Øverlien Dåstøl, PhD fellow in the Prevent-JIA study, represents Norway in the final of EULAR's RheumaVision communication competition. She shows how the question "did Vikings have RA?" can teach us more about research methodology and risk factors for disease development. - How do the new EULAR/ERS guidelines impact therapeutic management of CTD-ILD and RA-ILD?
Anna Hoffmann-Vold, one of the leading experts in CTD-ILD and the latest author of the ERS/EULAR recommendations in the field, will give two presentations. She will discuss both how the recommendations may impact the treatment of RA-ILD, and other clinical implications of the guideline.
Friday
- Results from the 5-year NOR-Gout study
Hilde Berner Hammer presents findings from the NOR-Gout study. The study shows a correlation between crystal deposits and erosions. The presentation will be one of the highlights for anyone interested in ultrasound in rheumatology.
- Patient-initiated follow-up is more cost-effective than remote monitoring or usual care in axial spondyloarthritis
Inger Jorid Berg, postdoctoral fellow in the ReMonit study, presents data on the cost-effectiveness of patient-initiated follow-up. This is compared with digital follow-up and usual care of patients with axial spondyloarthritis.
Saturday
- Results from part 2 of the randomized NORD-STAR trial
Marte Schrumpf Heiberg presents data on bDMARD tapering in RA patients in remission. This is a clinically important topic in discussions with patients considering reduced treatment. - 10-year follow-up of the ARCTIC trial
Henrik Mangseth presents data on prevalence and risk factors for RA-ILD from ARCTIC forward. Lena Bugge Nordberg presents other 10-year data from the same cohort. - Impact of TNF-inhibitor discontinuation on postpartum flare in rheumatoid arthritis
Ingunn Sagberg presents results from RevNatus on flare-ups of RA after a break in treatment with TNF-inhibitors. - Rheumatology in the digital health era
Nina Østerås gives an invited talk about how digital solutions can change follow-up, treatment and interaction – and what it takes for the technology to actually benefit patients and healthcare professionals.
