If you sleep poorly, you may have more pain in your hands
People with hand osteoarthritis who struggle with sleep report more severe pain – both in their hands and elsewhere in their body. Researchers don't yet know why this is the case.
It's hard to get through the day when both your joints and your sleep are failing. Now, new research from Norway shows that poor sleep and severe pain often go hand in hand in people with hand osteoarthritis.
“The worse people slept, the more pain they reported. The pain was in both the hands and the body in general,” says Daniel Huseby Bordvik, researcher at Diakonhjemmet Hospital.
The study has followed nearly 300 people with hand osteoarthritis over several years.
