Can a simple question about work ability say anything about future sick leave? On November 13, 2026, Mari Nilsen Skinnes will defend her doctoral thesis Work ability and work participation in rehabilitation at the University of Oslo.

She has examined work ability and work participation among 2,710 adults who have undergone rehabilitation in Norway.

The results show that work ability improved in the year after rehabilitation, and that people who rated their own work ability as good had fewer days of health-related Nav benefits the following year.

The findings suggest that a simple question about work ability can help identify patients who need extra follow-up to be able to work.

Time and place:

  • Trial lecture at 10:15

  • Dissertation at 1:15 p.m

  • The auditorium in the DBL building, Diakonveien 18, Oslo

The doctoral student has followed the doctoral program at UiO and the doctoral work has taken place at REMEDY and EHI at Diakonhjemmet Hospital.

Everyone is welcome to the doctoral examination in the auditorium in the DBL building, Diakonveien 18.
