Train of thought

Disease understanding and coping with chronic illness

Project Manager

ABOUT THE PROJECT

When we are affected by illness, we try to create an understanding and meaning with what is happening. It is called disease understanding, and is based by our own experiences, information from healthcare professionals and others, as well as our social and cultural knowledge. Disease understanding can be defined as our own thoughts, ideas and opinions about disease.

Within musculoskeletal and rheumatology, we have become more aware that disease understanding plays a role in adaptation to and outcome of disease. We know this both through clinical experience and through research. With the train of thought project, we want to convey and implement knowledge about disease understanding, rooted in theory and research. The project, supported by Stiftelsen Dam in 2021, has a duration of 1.5 years and is a collaboration between NRF, the research and dissemination unit for musculoskeletal health (FORMI), Diakonhjemmet hospital and REMEDY.

WHO CAN JOIN?

The project group consists of Ida Løchting, Elin Fjerstad, Torkil Berge, Anna Fryxelius, Gerd Jenny Aanerud and Kjersti Storheim

WHAT DOES THE STUDY INCLUDE?

Courses have been held and brochures developed for healthcare personnel and people with musculoskeletal diseases and ailments related to the topic. A film will also be developed. Material that has been developed in connection with the project has, among other things, been made available on the Norwegian Rheumatism Association's (NRF) website so that material is also available after the end of the project ( www.revmatiker.no )
