MoRA – monitoring aspects of rheumatoid arthritis

Project manager

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The purpose of this project is to understand how and why rheumatoid arthritis occurs.

In the research project, we will investigate whether there are markers in, for example, blood samples or other biological material that are central to the disease process.

Today, it is still unknown what causes the immune system to create inflammation in the joints and cause chronic joint disease.

We want to investigate the disease mechanisms surrounding this with this study, which is a collaborative project between Diakonhjemmet Hospital and Oslo University Hospital.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis

WHAT DOES THE STUDY INVOLVE?

The MoRA study is an observational study and participation has no consequences for treatment.

The study involves regular follow-up at the Rheumatology Department and will be largely based on regular consultations at the hospital.

Participants may also be asked to make one or more additional visits to the hospital during the duration of the study.

Blood samples are taken from all participants. Where possible, synovial fluid is also taken from swollen joints that are drained as part of the treatment.

Some participants may be asked to give their consent to take samples of inflamed joint membrane (synovial biopsy). Most participants will be asked to take samples only once, but some may be asked to provide samples at a later time as well.
