ABOUT THE PROJECT
RELIEF is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study in which eligible participants with hand osteoarthritis will be randomly assigned to either an anti-inflammatory gel (topical diclofenac) or a placebo gel.
Eligible participants are people with hand osteoarthritis and pain in the hands. The intervention will be applied twice daily to the hands for the first two weeks of the study, then as needed for the next four weeks of the study. Our primary endpoint is change in hand pain after two weeks.
WHO CAN JOIN?
Adult men and women with osteoarthritis of the hands according to the EULAR classification criteria and pain in the hands (at least 4 on a 0-10 scale).
People with other arthritic diseases, recent hand surgery, or recent use of systemic corticosteroids or injections into joints/tendons in the hand will be excluded.
WHAT DOES THE STUDY INVOLVE?
Participants will attend three visits (inclusion, week 2 and week 6) following a screening examination. The treatment and follow-up are free of charge for the participants.
