In a recently published study in Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, researchers from the Nor-Hand study at the REMEDY center and Diakonhjemmet hospital have uncovered five distinct groups of patients with hand osteoarthritis. The various groups differ from each other in relation to how much pain they experience.

What is the best course of treatment for the inflammatory disease arthritis - rheumatoid arthritis (RA)? With modern treatment, around two out of three people with RA avoid impaired functional capacity. But can the treatment have a price? A recently published research article in The Lancet Rheumatology provides new insights into different treatment strategies.

Diakonhjemmet hospital is among the six hospitals that do the most research in Norway. Many of the studies are clinical research.

Now two leading research environments in Norway are taking an international initiative to calculate the climate footprint in advance of medical treatments. These ambitions have recently been published in the highest ranked medical journal internationally, The New England Journal of Medicine . 

The doctoral work shows a connection between the patient's immune response and treatment effect in inflammatory diseases of the joints and intestines. The research has contributed to greater understanding of how the immune system affects the effect of biological medicines and COVID-19 vaccines in people with such diseases.
